VISUAL DEVELOPMENT
At Kirkwood Eye Center, our goal is to provide parents the support they need to maximize their child’s visual development. Eye exams for children are incredibly important, and we’re here to help you along the way! Routine exams allow us to catch vision problems early on, preventing possible vision loss in the future. Keep reading to learn about how we address pediatric care for all ages.


PRE-SCHOOL: 4-5 YRS.
- Health history of the child & family
- Visual acuity measured by shapes or letters
- Evaluate accommodation and binocular vision
- Treatment of moderate refractive error
- Evaluate reading readiness
- Manage eye allergies and infections
CHILD: 6-14 YRS.
- Health history of the child & family
- Visual acuity measured by shapes or letters
- Evaluate accommodation and binocular vision
- Treatment of even small refractive error to maximize performance
- Preventive care with Ortho-K, vision therapy, computer vision syndrome
- Sports vision eye safety
- Manage eye allergies, styes, pink eye, injuries


YOUNG ADULT: 15-18 YRS.
- Health history of the child & family
- Visual acuity measured by letters
- Evaluate accommodation and binocular vision
- Treatment of even small refractive error to maximize performance
- Preventive care with Ortho-K, vision therapy, computer vision syndrome
- Sports vision eye safety
- Evaluate vision requirements for driving
- Manage eye allergies, styes, injuries
